Rio survey in Monocle

Monocle 31

Monocle cover - edition 31

Like the rest of the Hej team, I’m a big fan of Monocle. This month edition features a really interesting article about Rio in Brazil. You can get a preview at http://monocle.com/rio/.

The survey explores the different aspects of the life of Rio and its Cariocas (Rio inhabitants) with interesting short interviews of personalities from the city. You can understand how Rio is becoming a city full of opportunities and working on solving its problems with results. It seems that the new mayor understands quite well the challenges that Rio is facing and has interesting solutions for the favelas, the environment and the transportation. It’s also important to note that Rio will host the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. This is an amazing chance for them to show the world that Rio has become a major city to be known for more than the favelas gangs and the bikinis on Ipanema.

I also had the chance to talk to people knowing the Brazil well and to be honest, I’m now so convinced by the potential of the city that it’s definitely on my list of my possible destination for my next expatriation. The compromise between a pleasant lifestyle and a fast economic development (implying work opportunities) seems very promising. I have to make more research on the subject but thanks to Monocle I’m now more aware about Rio !

We’d be very interested to read from your experiences with the Brazil and Rio in particular. So please comment !

Alex

Disaster in Haiti

Haiti flag

Haiti

The Hej team would like to express his great support to all the families and victims of the tragic quake that happened in Haiti. For some reasons these natural disasters keeps happening to countries with already huge difficulties and problems. They already needed our help before that and now more than ever !!

Here’s a list of way to donate money to help Haiti :

The Red Cross – http://www.redcross.org/

UNICEF – www.unicefusa.org/haitiquake

Mercy Corps – http://www.mercycorps.org/

Doctors Without Borders – http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org

And more on http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8456730.stm !

And remember that there’s a lot of other countries that might not have been devasted but where people suffer and need our help. All the previous organization listed for Haiti are doing amazing jobs and needs donation of course. But we think a great way of helping is Kiva – http://www.kiva.org/, a non-profit organization for microcredits that is doing an incredible job. They have a field partner in Haiti and that could be a great way to help rebuilding the country on the long term.

Hejorama’s not dead !

This is just a quick post to update the status on the project Hejorama.

Hejorama has always been a side project for us and we have dedicated a large amount of our time to it over the last 3 years. We have a lot of ideas but unfortunately only short ressources to implement them. The site as you can visit it right now is just a small percentage of what we want to do. And we will keep working on it because we consider that it’s the only website on the Internet that looks like us. We are not interested in sharing our travel story on TripAdvisor or this kind of website because they are just huge classical unpersonnal plateforms to make money… We like being fun, flashy and not typical. That’s why we will continue to work on the site to improve and do fun and interesting stuff. And I’m sure you will all like it !

Major update !

Hej,

I’m happy to announce that the website has been upgraded today. Almost a year has passed since the last upgrade of the website and this upgrade fixes a lot of bugs and enhance the ease of use of Hejorama. Our goal is to make it extremely easy to use and yet having interesting features.

Screenshot

A simpler profile

The main new feature is the “interview mode” that has been designed to make it easier to write chronicles. Instead of just having a clear textbox, we now offer the possibility of simply answering 14 questions to tell everything about your travels. We hope that will help hejies who were not always confortable with writing their own chronicle to share their amazing trips with the community.

We having been planning a lot of features and we are going to enter a new development cycle for the website. We have also a number of side project to the main site that includes a mobile version and Android/Iphone application. More details will be available soon.

Cheers

Back to work after the summer break…

Hello,

after a long summer break full of changes in the life of the members of the Hejorama team, it’s time to get back to work ! New projects, new ideas, new motivations have growed in our minds during the summer and we are ready to give Hejorama a new breath. A lot of things have been planned and they will arrive gradually on the website. Be patient !

Meanwhile, here’s an amazing link for all the travellers to remind us about all the great journeys that have been made through history  by our predecessors and heroes : Colombus, Magellan, Lindbergh or Phileas Fogg. All that on an animated and interactive flash map. Enjoy !

Major update of the website

Hello,

last night we updated Hejorama with several bugfixes and some improvements. The major change is in your personal space (also called “profile”) where we try to simplify the process of adding content to the site.

Here is what the websites now looks like :

As you can see, you can now add directly an address review or a chronicle, without the step of adding a destination. If you click to add, you will have a small box to ask you where to add your review or chronicle :

We figured that with this new method, it will be quicker and easier to add content to Hejorama. We hope that you will like it !

More new functionalities are coming soon. Have fun on Hejorama !

Hejorama on Twitter

We think that having a feed for Hejorama on Twitter could be pretty cool. So here it is : http://twitter.com/hejorama.

We don’t really know yet what we’ll post on it, but we will figure out something fun for sure ! Probably new chronicles, new updates and stuff like that.
